The Cappadocia region of what is today called Turkey was once a vast plateau hosting active volcanoes, including Mount Erciyes, Mount Hasan, among others.. These volcanoes erupted frequently, covering the landscape with layers of ash, lava, and basalt. These layers are the foundation of Cappadocia’s unique geology.
